My Double Page Spread...

This is the double page spread for my magazine 'SOUND of the underground'. Its an interview about an acoustic musician called P.J Roots and covers his influences, highlights and any future aims or performances of his. i feel I've used good pictures as they reflect his soulful style of music, in the way that his head is bowed with both eyes closed in both images which could be suggesting that he is reflecting showing a calm attitude towards music. I also think by using a heading like 'Bob Marley's My Inspiration' i am appealing to my target audience who can connect with the passion that Bob Marley had for his music. In terms of the amount of writing i feel i could have written a bit more although i am pleased with the content of the answers as i feel they are interesting and would attract my reader. I am happy with the look and feel of my Double Page spread and i think that i have written an article which would be entertaining for my audience to read...

My Contents Page...

This is the contents page for my final project 'SOUND of the underground'. I feel i created a contents which looks different to the pages in which you would find in a mainstream music magazine. I created this by using the same idea as the front cover and made it look rough but also simple, the torn paper helps create this effect by making it look like it has been put together quickly, i got this idea using my research on fanzines where it has been used on the front covers. I also chose to use words that would stand out to the reader for example Breaking Stories! and Inside Exclusives! as i wanted to attract my audience to the magazines articles. again like my front cover i am very pleased with the finished piece, i feel it stands out and shows differences from the contests of the mainstream magazines...

My Origional Front Cover Image...

This is my front cover photo before i changed it to become more like the Bob Marley image which i found on the internet. To do this i used photoshop to change the image to black and white and then used an effect to blur the background and make him stand out greater. This made him become the main focus of the picture and so made him more striking on the magazine front cover...

Final Project Front Cover...

This is my finished front cover for 'SOUND of the underground'. I wanted to recreate the Bob Marley image as best as i could so that the front cover still had a raw effect with a picture which looks natural and not posed. I feel i have achieved this effect with the image that ive used as it has similarities to the picture in which I had originally chosen. after first taking the photo i changed certain parts of the image so that it was more similar to the Bob Marley picture for example i changed it to black and white and also applied some effects. overall I'm very happy with my finished piece as i feel i have created a realistic front cover with elements of a fanzine style which would appeal to my potential target audience...

Front Cover Mock-Up...

This is the mock- up of my front cover for my final project 'SOUND of the underground'. I feel this picture best reflects the style of my magazine in the way that the image is raw and shows a passionate Bob Marly performing live on stage. i wanted an image which was different to the posed pictures on a typical magazine front cover and i think with this photo i have achieved this. using similar techniques to those i used in my 'red head' cover i think i created a piece which stands out and is different to the typical mainstream magazine. My piece uses elements of both the magazine key conventions in the way that i have included a bold title and used language like exclusive to attract the reader and also the key conventions of a fanzine by the way in which the layout is not set out and it looks rough, reinforcing the raw look which i wanted to acheive in my front cover...

Practice Magazine... Red Head...

This is my practice magazine 'Red Head'. I've included this to show my improvements when using photoshop compared to my pre-lim task, I feel the use of the dominant central image is stricking and makes the front cover stand out and by also making it simple with a small amount of writing and the use of just one colour, it made the image bolder. I wanted to recreate this look on the front cover of my final project and to do this I used similar techniques to this piece...

Pre-Lim Task... School Magazine...

This is what i created for my pre-lim task, it is a school sport magazine called the 'St.andy sport'. I think the look of the magazine is amateur because of the simple block colours and background of the magazine is a boring plain blue. Also the image isn't great and it doesn't dominate the piece like i had originally aimed for it to do. I feel this was because of my lack of skill and knowledge when it came to using photoshop, but this is something which I feel I've improved on throughout the year and this is shown in my practice magazine 'red head' and also in the front cover of my final project 'SOUND of the underground'...

My Magazine And My Target Audience...

Hi my name is tom Brice, Im 17 and i go to 6th form at st. andrews school. For my AS media project i have designed and created a magazine in the style of a fanzine named 'SOUND of the underground'. It will cover a range of different types of music and will include the latest up and coming artists from the underground music scene providing exclusive interviews and reviews for my reader. It would also be giving the newest information to my audience on the venues where these acts can be seen and will provide reviews of these performances. My target audience are aged between 18 and 28 and are those who would describe themselves as dedicated music fans who like to keep up to date with the latest news of the music world...
